2022 BabelScores (Mountain Witch) 2018 Dark Mofo Festival X Hobart Airport Commercial
I conceived Wormhole while working in Hollywood as a project coordinator and audio engineer. I then developed the work during my master’s in ancient Greek philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. It was released alongside Dionysus under my former stage name Omelas on Possible Futures in 2017, the personal record label of Paulo Reachi, former curator of Berlin Atonal. I premiered it alongside Dionysus on Ableton Push 2 at the 2018 Dark Mofo festival “Laterne” held by Berlin Atonal at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart. Through Berlin Atonal, I also received an as-of-yet-unreleased remix of this work by the veteran US noise artist Container. I have always enjoyed long walks. My digital sound design of the evolving percussion part—using only a drum rack with high pass filter, delay, and reverb automation—explores the liminality of what is rhythmic, arrhythmic, and textural. These state transitions came to me during my rainy nights walking around Edinburgh hearing and feeling the rain on plastic, fabric, cobblestone, eaves, roofs, and fences. Alongside Dionysus, I substantially expanded this work when I returned to Sydney. Its final form, Mountain Witch, was premiered at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in Sydney as a multimedia performance/installation.
